New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday assured the country that those behind the blast near Delhi’s Red Fort would be brought to justice and “will not be spared under any circumstances.”
Expressing condolences to the victims’ families, Singh said, “I pray for strength and peace for the bereaved families in this hour of grief. I also want to assure citizens that top investigative agencies are conducting a swift and thorough probe into the incident.” He added that the findings of the investigation would be made public soon.
A powerful explosion tore through a car near the Red Fort metro station on Monday evening, killing at least 13 people.
Following the incident, Delhi Police registered an FIR under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Explosives Act. The capital has been placed on high alert, with enhanced security at airports, railway stations, and bus terminals.
Raids are ongoing across several locations in Delhi after preliminary investigations indicated links to a terror module recently busted in Faridabad.
Earlier that day, police had arrested eight people, including three doctors, and seized around 2,900 kg of explosive material. The haul included 360 kg of suspected ammonium nitrate, potassium nitrate, sulphur, and a cache of arms and ammunition.
