Srinagar records season’s coldest night at minus 1.6°C

Srinagar: As the winter chill tightens its grip on the Valley, Srinagar — the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir — recorded its coldest night of the season at minus 1.6°C.

According to the Meteorological (MeT) Department, Pahalgam remained the coldest place in the Valley, where the mercury dipped to minus 3.8°C. Budgam also recorded a severe low of minus 4.2°C, closely followed by Shopian at minus 4.1°C and Pampore at minus 3.4°C.

Sonamarg registered minus 2.9°C, Bandipora minus 2.6°C, Awantipora minus 2.2°C, Kupwara and Srinagar Airport minus 2.0°C each, while Ganderbal recorded minus 1.7°C.

Elsewhere, Qazigund witnessed minus 1.5°C, Pulwama minus 1.4°C, Kulgam minus 1.1°C, and the world-famous ski resort Gulmarg minus 1.0°C. Kokernag, however, experienced a relatively milder night at 0.8°C, while data for Anantnag was not available.

In the Jammu region, Jammu city recorded a minimum temperature of 10.0°C, while Banihal dipped to minus 0.5°C and Bhaderwah settled at 1.2°C. Batote and Katra recorded lows of 4.5°C and 9.0°C, respectively.

Kathua reported 10.2°C, Jammu Airport 11.7°C, Udhampur 5.0°C, Ramban 6.1°C, Rajouri 3.4°C, and Kishtwar 4.2°C, while temperature details for Samba were not available.
