New Delhi: The BJP on Thursday accused social media accounts operating from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Singapore and other countries of pushing an anti-India narrative at the direction of Rahul Gandhi and what it called the Left ecosystem. The party also claimed that the X account of Congress media department chief Pawan Khera is registered in the United States.

At a press conference at the BJP headquarters, party MP and national spokesperson Sambit Patra displayed several X accounts he said were created abroad and used to run campaigns targeting the Election Commission, the BJP-RSS and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, including posts amplifying the Congress’ allegations of “vote chori.”

The Congress did not immediately comment on the allegations.

Patra alleged that since 2014, Rahul Gandhi, his social media team and prominent Left-leaning figures have “left no stone unturned” to attack Modi and India, and have even relied on “foreign forces” to do so.

He said a new feature introduced by X, which shows an account’s location and creation details, revealed that many Congress-linked accounts were registered overseas. According to him, Khera’s account shows a US. base, Maharashtra Congress’ account was originally based in Ireland before being changed to India, and the Himachal Pradesh Congress’ account is connected through a Thailand Android app.

Patra said that after the feature went live, several Congress- and Left-linked accounts either switched their listed locations to India or hid them altogether.
