Mirwaiz mourns demise of noted Islamic scholar Peer Zulfiqar Ahmad Naqshbandi

Srinagar: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Sunday expressed deep grief over the demise of noted Islamic scholar and spiritual leader Hazrat Peer Zulfiqar Ahmad Naqshbandi, describing his passing as a major loss to the Muslim Ummah.

In a statement, the Mirwaiz said Hazrat Peer Zulfiqar Ahmad Naqshbandi was a guiding light in the fields of da’wah, self-reformation and spiritual purification, whose quiet service to Islam had a lasting impact on countless followers.

He prayed for the departed soul to be granted the highest place in paradise and for patience and strength to the bereaved family and disciples.

Hazrat Peer Zulfiqar Ahmad Naqshbandi was widely respected for his contributions to Islamic scholarship and spiritual guidance.

Born on April 1, 1953, in Jhang, Punjab, Pakistan, Maulana Zulfiqar Ahmad Naqshbandi rose to prominence as a leading scholar of the Naqshbandi Mujaddidi order, known for his emphasis on spiritual reform rooted in the Quran and Sunnah. He founded and patronised Jamia Mahad ul Faqir al Islami in Jhang, where he devoted decades to Islamic education, tasawwuf and moral training, focusing on self-purification and strengthening one’s relationship with Allah.

In recent years, his sermons and lectures reached a global audience through digital platforms, reinforcing his influence well beyond South Asia.

His teachings on inner reform, discipline and spiritual growth resonated with followers across the Middle East, Europe and Africa, drawing tributes from scholars and devotees after his death. He had been suffering from a kidney-related illness for some time, people close to him said.
