Cold wave persists in Kashmir, Pulwama shivers at minus 4°C

Srinagar: Several parts of Kashmir shivered under subzero temperatures overnight, with Pulwama emerging as the coldest place in the Valley at minus 4 degrees Celsius, according to data compiled by Kashmir Weather.

Srinagar recorded a minimum of minus 2.1 degrees Celsius, while the city’s airport was colder at minus 3.4 degrees. Baramulla dipped to minus 3.6 degrees, Pampore and Shopian settled at minus 3.5 degrees each, and Kupwara, Anantnag and Bandipora recorded lows close to minus 3 degrees.

Tourist resort Pahalgam registered minus 2.6 degrees, while Gulmarg was relatively warmer at 1 degree Celsius. Kokernag and Kulgam recorded minimums of 0.5 degrees and 0.9 degrees, respectively. Sonamarg hovered just above freezing at 0.1 degrees. Zojila Pass data was unavailable, while the Zethan Rafiabad station remained non-functional.

In the Jammu region, minimum temperatures stayed well above freezing. Jammu city recorded 9.9 degrees Celsius, with the airport logging 11.1 degrees. Banihal recorded 3.5 degrees, Bhaderwah 2.3 degrees, and Rajouri 2.4 degrees, while Katra settled at 9.2 degrees.

Ladakh continued to reel under intense cold conditions, with Leh recording a minimum of minus 4.6 degrees Celsius, Kargil minus 4 degrees, and Nubra Valley minus 2.6 degrees.

The Meteorological Department has advised residents, particularly in higher reaches, to remain cautious as cold conditions persist.
