Hyderabad: In Hyderabad, Kamatipura police have registered two cases in connection with the vandalism of a temple in Puranapul and the violence that followed, which left five people injured and caused damage to vehicles, a religious flag and a shrine on Wednesday, January 14.
Police presence remains heavy in and around Puranapul to prevent any further escalation.
The first case relates to the alleged vandalism of the temple by an unidentified person, which triggered tension in the area. The second case was filed against a mob accused of pelting stones at police, damaging vehicles, desecrating graves and a religious flag near Puranapul Darwaza, and assaulting members of a particular community.
Tension erupted after locals noticed damage to the temple and alerted others, leading to a protest. Police intervened promptly and prevented further violence. Senior officials later held discussions with residents, and the damaged portion of the idol was restored.
