Srinagar: Amid continued snowfall and adverse weather conditions across the Valley, J&K Police on Thursday activated emergency helpline numbers in multiple districts and intensified rescue and assistance operations to ensure public safety.
In south Kashmir’s Awantipora, police established an emergency helpline in view of continuous snowfall. In Budgam district, police activated dedicated 24×7 helplines in view of forecasts of snowfall, lightning, strong winds, cloudbursts and thunderstorms. Meanwhile, police teams continued rescue and relief operations across districts. In Ganderbal, police assisted stranded tourists and locals at Gund and Sonamarg, evacuating vehicles stuck in deep snow and facilitating safe movement. In Shopian and Kulgam, police cleared hospital roads, evacuated stranded vehicles and assisted vulnerable commuters. In Shopian, police delivered an oxygen cylinder to a COPD patient at Bon Bazar and helped shift another patient to hospital.
In Kulgam, police evacuated a pregnant woman on foot from Rangtraji (Widkhud) Devsar to PHC Devsar for medical treatment. In another incident in Qazigund, police assisted a woman and her newborn stranded at Chango Crossing, shifting them safely to their residence amid heavy snowfall.
Police have appealed to the public to avoid unnecessary travel, follow official advisories and contact the helplines in case of any emergency, assuring continued assistance round the clock.
