Govt refers 594 lecturer posts to recruitment agencies to address teacher shortage: CM Omar

Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday announced that the government has referred 594 lecturer posts to recruitment agencies. The move aims to address the critical shortage of teachers in the region.

While presenting the Budget for 2026-27 in the Legislative Assembly, CM Omar Abdullah stated that the step underscores the administration’s commitment to “strengthening the education system” and ensuring “timely appointments,” according to the news agency Kashmir News Service.

The Chief Minister said Jammu and Kashmir will host an International Film Festival in 2026. He told the House that this initiative marks a major step towards “promoting the Union Territory as a global hub for cinema and creative industries.”

CM Omar said the Budget is focused on “transforming J&K into a modern, progressive, and economically vibrant region.” He emphasised that the administration is “building a business-friendly ecosystem that invites innovation and investment,” with the goal of “turning J&K into a hub of enterprise and ideas.”

The Chief Minister also stated that the J&K government is “actively engaging with the central government to resolve fiscal issues,” highlighting the collaborative approach in the Union Territory’s financial planning.
