Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday announced a cash award of Rs2 crore for the Jammu and Kashmir squad following their landmark victory in the Ranji Trophy final against Karnataka.
In a message posted on X, Abdullah congratulated the players and support staff, lauding their commanding display on Karnataka’s home turf and calling the win a milestone moment in the region’s cricketing history.
He said the achievement has generated immense pride across the Union Territory and served as motivation for young athletes, highlighting Jammu and Kashmir’s growing stature in India’s domestic cricket landscape.
The Chief Minister also stated that members of the title-winning team would be considered for government employment under the newly introduced policy for outstanding sportspersons, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to nurturing and rewarding sporting excellence in the region.
The chief minister had travelled to Hubballi to personally cheer for Jammu & Kashmir during the final, accompanied by his political advisor Nasir Sogami and party spokesperson Tanveer Sadiq, in a gesture seen as a strong show of support for the side on Karnataka’s home ground.
