Two multi-storey hotel buildings gutted, another partially damaged in massive blaze
Pahalgam: A 31-year-old man died after sustaining injuries in a fire incident in Pahalgam, in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, officials said.
The officials said that the fire broke out at Asal Resort in the Rangward area, resulting in the death of Manjeet Singh, son of Wakeel Singh, a resident of Hutmrah Mattan, who was working at Hotel The Wave Lodge, Pahalgam.
Manjeet sustained injuries at the spot after allegedly being hit during the reversing of a Fire and Emergency Services vehicle (Chassis 7730) following the emergency response.
He was immediately shifted to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Pahalgam for treatment, where doctors declared him brought dead, officials said, adding that the body is presently lying at SDH Pahalgam.
Officials further said that the fire caused extensive damage to property at the resort owned by Mohd Iqbal Pahalwaan, son of Sonaullah Pahalwaan, a resident of Naibasti Anantnag. “In the blaze, two three-storey buildings were completely damaged, while another building sustained partial damage.”
“A vehicle bearing registration number DL8CV-0555, owned by Asif Iqbal Pahalwaan of Naibasti Anantnag, was also damaged in the incident,” officials added.
“The cause of the fire has not yet been ascertained, and further investigation is underway,” officials said. (GNS)
