Man fatally shoots himself while cousin films, unaware of his intentions in east Delhi’s Dallupura

New Delhi: A 28-year-old man allegedly died after shooting himself in the chest while his cousin filmed him loading a pistol in east Delhi’s Dallupura, police said Tuesday, March 17.

The incident surfaced on March 16 after New Ashok Nagar police received information from Dharamshila Hospital in Vasundhara Enclave about a medico-legal case involving a gunshot injury.

When officers reached the hospital, they found Pawan Kumar, a resident of Dallupura village, admitted in an unconscious condition with a gunshot wound on the left side of his chest. Doctors later declared him dead during treatment.

Police said the incident was captured on video. The person recording, Himanshu—identified as the victim’s cousin—appeared unaware of Pawan’s intentions.

In the now-viral clip, Pawan is seen inserting a magazine into a licensed pistol and loading it, while Himanshu cautions him against firing. “Chala mat dena, bhai” (do not fire it, brother), Himanshu is heard saying.

Seconds later, Pawan places the gun against his chest, looks briefly at the camera, smiles, and pulls the trigger, collapsing immediately. A shocked Himanshu can be heard reacting, “Bhai, kya kar diya tune?” (What have you done, brother?), before the video cuts off.

Preliminary inquiry revealed the pistol belonged to Himanshu. The weapon and 10 live cartridges have been seized. The phone used to record the video has also been taken into custody, and evidence has been collected from the scene.

The body has been sent to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital for a post-mortem.

A case has been registered under Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant provisions of the Arms Act at New Ashok Nagar police station. Further investigation is underway, police said.
