An Indian national was among two people killed in the UAE on Thursday, March 26, after debris from missiles intercepted by the country’s air defence system fell onto a street in Abu Dhabi, according to local media reports.

The Indian Embassy in the UAE conveyed its “deepest condolences” over the death and said it is coordinating closely with local authorities to provide all necessary support and assistance.

The second victim was a Pakistani national, while three others were injured, including one Indian, the Abu Dhabi Media Office said.

Authorities said the incident occurred on Sweihan Street after air defence systems successfully intercepted a ballistic missile. The injured included individuals of Emirati, Jordanian and Indian nationalities, with conditions ranging from serious to moderate.

The UAE’s Ministry of Defence said its air defence systems have been responding frequently to missile and drone threats from Iran. On March 26 alone, forces intercepted 15 ballistic missiles and 11 drones.

A total of 169 people have been injured so far, with casualties reported among nationals from several countries, including the UAE, India, Pakistan, Egypt, Sudan and others.
