A Kashmiri man working as a nurse specialist in Saudi Arabia has been detained by authorities over a social media post, according to the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association.
Amjad Ali Bhat, a resident of Gund Ibrahim in the Pattan area of Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir, was employed as a nurse specialist in Dammam with Saudi-based firm Saudi Response Plus Medical.
He was reportedly taken into custody by Saudi Civil Defence Forces on March 25, following a post he shared online related to Ali Hosseini Khamenei, who was described in the post as “assassinated”.
There has been no official statement from Saudi authorities regarding the detention or the charges, if any, against Bhat.
The incident comes amid heightened sensitivities in the region over political and sectarian expressions on social media.
