Srinagar: A cyber alert has been issued warning mobile users against fake messages related to LPG payment and KYC updates that are being used to steal banking details, officials said.

The fraudulent messages, often carrying malicious links, appear legitimate and push users to act immediately. Clicking on such links can redirect victims to fake websites designed to capture personal information, including bank login credentials and one-time passwords (OTPs), officials added.

The alert comes amid a rise in phishing scams targeting utility service users. Fraudsters are exploiting common services like LPG connections to build trust and gain access to financial data.

Users have been advised not to click on suspicious links or share personal or financial information in response to unsolicited messages. Any such communication should be verified only through official websites or authorised customer care channels.

Officials said cyber fraud can lead to instant financial loss and stressed that awareness and caution remain the most effective safeguards. (KNS)
