Iran blocks US vessels in Strait of Hormuz amid conflicting claims and ongoing talks
Tensions in the Gulf region remain high as Iran’s navy has reportedly blocked US vessels from entering the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, according to Iranian state media. The development follows remarks by former US President Donald Trump, who stated that American forces would assist and guide stranded ships in the area. However, the United States has strongly denied claims made by Iranian media that one of its naval ships was struck by Iranian missiles, clarifying that no US Navy vessel has been hit.
Amid these conflicting claims, there have been some signs of cautious diplomatic progress. Pakistan announced that an Iranian ship previously seized by US forces will be returned, and its crew repatriated, describing the move as a goodwill gesture by Washington. Islamabad, which has positioned itself as a mediator in the ongoing tensions, said such steps are important for building trust and reducing the risk of further escalation.
Diplomatic engagement between the United States and Iran appears to be continuing, albeit slowly. Trump expressed optimism, stating that discussions between representatives of both sides are progressing in a positive direction. On the other hand, Iran’s Foreign Ministry indicated that it is still reviewing the latest response from the United States regarding its peace proposal.
Despite these developments, the situation remains fragile, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial route through which a significant portion of the world’s oil and gas supplies pass, making stability in the region vital for global energy markets.
