New York court unseals purported Jeffrey Epstein suicide note linked to failed 2019 jail attempt
A federal judge in New York on Wednesday unsealed a purported suicide note written by Jeffrey Epstein shortly before a failed suicide attempt in 2019 while he was in federal custody on sex trafficking charges.
The handwritten note, whose authenticity has not been verified, emerged from court records tied to Epstein’s former cellmate Nicholas Tartaglione, a former police officer serving four life sentences for a 2016 quadruple murder.
In the note, Epstein allegedly wrote, “They investigated me for month — Found nuthing!!!” before ending with the phrase, “Whatcha want me to do — Bust out cryin!! No Fun – Not Worth It!!”
The wording closely resembled phrases Epstein used in earlier emails released this year as part of documents made public under the bipartisan Epstein Files Transparency Act.
In a 2016 email to his brother, Mark Epstein, he reportedly wrote, “whtchoo want me toodo — bust out crying,” while a similar phrase appeared in a 2017 message to childhood friend Terry Kafka.
The note was released following a request by The New York Times and was not included in the millions of pages previously released by the U.S. Justice Department.
Epstein died in a New York jail in August 2019 in what authorities ruled a suicide.
The Justice Department has faced criticism over its handling of the Epstein files release, including allegations that some documents were withheld while names of several victims were not properly redacted.
