In lawyer’s gown, Mamata appears in Calcutta HC over post-poll violence case
Kolkata: Mamata Banerjee on Thursday appeared before the Calcutta High Court in connection with a case related to alleged post-poll violence and attacks on Trinamool Congress offices after the 2026 Assembly election results.
Banerjee, dressed in a lawyer’s gown, arrived at the court along with senior TMC leaders Chandrima Bhattacharya and Kalyan Banerjee.
The case stems from a public interest litigation filed by advocate Shirshanya Bandyopadhyay on behalf of the All India Trinamool Congress, alleging attacks on party offices and violence against its workers following the declaration of the Assembly poll results.
According to the petition, several TMC workers and leaders were allegedly assaulted and forced to flee their homes due to their association with the party.
The petition was submitted before the Calcutta High Court on May 12 and was heard by a division bench comprising Chief Justice Sujoy Paul and Justice Parthasarathi Sen.
In a post on X, the TMC claimed Banerjee personally appeared in court to fight against the alleged post-poll violence carried out by the BJP in West Bengal.
The party praised Banerjee for standing by the people of Bengal and continuing her fight for “truth, justice and constitutional values,” while also criticising the BJP’s conduct.
