New Delhi: Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Thursday issued an advisory regarding the Ebola virus, urging passengers arriving from or transiting through affected countries to immediately report to airport health officials if they feel unwell.

The advisory comes a day after the Union health secretary chaired a high-level meeting with states to review preparedness and response measures related to Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).

The airport identified Congo, Uganda and South Sudan as high-risk countries and asked travellers coming from or transiting through these nations to remain alert.

Under the advisory, passengers have been asked to watch for symptoms such as fever, fatigue, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, sore throat and unexplained bleeding.

Travellers who have had direct contact with the blood or bodily fluids of a suspected or confirmed Ebola patient have also been instructed to immediately report to the airport health officer or health desk before immigration clearance.

The advisory further stated that any traveller developing such symptoms within 21 days of arrival should seek immediate medical attention and inform health authorities about their travel history.

Airport authorities also urged passengers to cooperate with health screening and public health measures in the interest of safety and international health regulations.

According to reports, 51 Ebola cases have so far been confirmed in the Democratic Republic of Congo, although the World Health Organisation has indicated that the actual scale of the outbreak may be much larger.
