Paper leak: Cockroach Janta Party announces Jantar Mantar protest
New Delhi: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), a social media-driven movement that has gained millions of followers in recent weeks, announced on Wednesday that it will hold a protest at Jantar Mantar on June 6, demanding the resignation of GoI minister of education Dharmendra Pradhan.
Speaking at the group’s first press conference in New Delhi, CJP spokespersons said the protest would focus on concerns over recent controversies involving national examinations, including the cancellation of NEET-UG and issues linked to the Central Board of Secondary Education’s on-screen evaluation system.
“We seek minimum accountability from this system where rot has set in,” spokesperson Saurav Das said.
The protest is expected to coincide with the arrival of CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, who is scheduled to travel from the United States to Delhi on Saturday. According to Das, Dipke will approach the Parliament Street police station to seek permission for the demonstration.
The movement has called on supporters from across the political spectrum to participate in the protest without carrying party or organisational banners.
Das described recent administrative changes within the CBSE as insufficient, arguing that responsibility for the examination controversies should extend beyond bureaucratic transfers.
Another spokesperson, filmmaker Vijeta Dahiya, said elected representatives must remain accountable to the public between elections.
The Cockroach Janta Party emerged on social media last month as a satirical platform before rapidly attracting a large online following. Its Instagram account currently has more than 22 million followers.
Despite its growing popularity, the group declined to outline positions on issues beyond education. Das said the movement’s immediate focus remains on alleged irregularities in multiple examinations and concerns raised by students and young people.
The June 6 protest will mark the group’s first major attempt to translate its online presence into an organised public demonstration.
