Several organisations have called for a Nizamabad bandh on Monday following the alleged assault on a school principal in Amroor on Saturday.
The groups have appealed to teachers’ unions to support the shutdown in protest against the attack on Bharat Chandra School principal Amer Khan.
Khan alleged that a group of BJP workers entered the school, questioned him over the teaching of Urdu to non-Muslim students and assaulted him. He further claimed that he and another teacher were later taken to a police station, where they were made to sit on the floor for several hours while no immediate action was taken against the alleged attackers.
Speaking to the media, Khan said Urdu classes were introduced only after parents requested that the language be included in the curriculum. He said the school management had approved the proposal and appointed a dedicated Urdu teacher.
According to Khan, the management was planning to create a separate block for the Urdu department, but the newly recruited teacher, unaware of the arrangement, conducted a combined class, which triggered the controversy.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, with several organisations demanding strict action against those responsible and urging teachers’ unions to back the bandh.
Following public outrage, police registered a case against several BJP workers in connection with the alleged assault. The investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha leader Nutala Srinivas accused the school, run by the Mallaiah Educational Trust, of forcing Hindu students to offer namaz. He claimed such practices hurt Hindu sentiments.
Parents also staged a protest outside the school, questioning whether the government had authorised the teaching of Urdu and alleging that the language was being imposed on students. They claimed complaints had previously been submitted to the Mandal Education Officer, but no action was taken against the school management.
Leaders of the BJP, Bajrang Dal, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh alleged that Urdu had been introduced compulsorily after Khan assumed charge as principal.
