The joint letter raises concerns over the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision process and other election-related issues

New Delhi: Twenty-three opposition parties, along with Independent MP Kapil Sibal, have written to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, raising concerns over the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and other election-related issues.

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said on X that the decision to send the joint letter was taken during the INDIA alliance meeting on June 8. He said the opposition parties remain united in what he described as “SURE” — Solidarity, Unity and Resistance.

According to Ramesh, the letter, signed by representatives of 23 political parties and Independent MP Kapil Sibal, was sent to the Chief Justice on Tuesday.

Derek O’Brien said the letter was also signed by the Aam Aadmi Party and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.

Reports quoting sources said the letter also raises broader concerns regarding the role of the Election Commission. The Congress and several opposition parties have repeatedly questioned the poll body’s handling of the Special Intensive Revision process.
