Shopian: Armed forces on Tuesday resumed the search operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district to track down two suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants, with the operation entering its fourth day after an overnight halt, officials said.

The combing operation recommenced at daybreak in the Meemandar area, where searches had been paused overnight as part of the ongoing anti-militancy operation.

According to officials, the two militants were first spotted on July 3 through surveillance cameras installed in a sprawling orchard across the Meemandar belt, which covers seven villages.

A joint team comprising the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has maintained a tight security cordon around the area while conducting systematic searches.

Officials said four of the seven villages had been thoroughly searched by Monday evening, with operations continuing in the remaining villages to trace the militants.

The search operation is still in progress, with armed forces continuing intensive combing efforts across the cordoned areas.
