SC removes litigant from courtroom after he hurls abuses at judges, flings documents
New Delhi: A litigant was forcibly removed from the Supreme Court on Friday after he hurled abuses in court and flung documents during the hearing of his petition challenging an Allahabad High Court decision in the matter of Prabal Pratap vs State of Uttar Pradesh, Bar & Bench reports.
The incident took place before a Bench of Justice KV Viswanathan and Justice Alok Aradhe.
The courtroom atmosphere turned tense when the petitioner, Prabal Pratap, who appeared in person, adopted an aggressive stance while making his submissions.
“Mr judicial servant, I order you to order the registration of an FIR against the Assistant Commissioner of Police of Lucknow,” Pratap said at the outset.
Taken aback by his conduct, Justice Viswanathan asked, “You are ordering me? You are ordering us?”
In response, Pratap said, “That is all from my side. Everything is on record.”
He soon escalated the situation by throwing the case file into the air and hurling verbal abuses in the open court.
Security staff immediately stepped in and removed him from the courtroom.
The order passed by the Bench, which was uploaded on the Supreme Court’s website later in the day, recorded the events.
“When this matter was taken up, Prabal Pratap, who appeared as petitioner-in-person on behalf of both the petitioners in this matter, instead of presenting the case, made incoherent and unparliamentary utterances,” the order noted.
Despite the breach of courtroom protocol, the Court decided to adopt a lenient approach and not take punitive action.
“We have, however, considering the condition of the petitioner above named, do not propose to take any action against him,” the Court said in the order.
On the legal merits of the case, which challenged an April 2026 judgment of the Allahabad High Court, the Supreme Court stated that it found “no good ground to interfere with the same.”
The appeal was accordingly dismissed.
