Srinagar: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast intermittent rain and thundershowers across Jammu and Kashmir over the next several days, while warning of heavy rainfall, flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas of the Union Territory.

According to the MeT Centre, many places are likely to witness one or two spells of rain or thundershowers on Saturday (July 12). Isolated areas of the Chenab Valley and the Pir Panjal range in the Jammu division may receive heavy rainfall or brief but intense showers.

The weather is expected to remain generally hot and humid from July 13 to 18, with scattered rain and thundershowers accompanied by brief intense showers at isolated places, mainly across the Jammu division.

The MeT Centre has further predicted fresh spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places across Jammu and Kashmir between July 19 and 21, with isolated heavy showers also likely during the period.

In its advisory, the weather office cautioned that heavy rainfall and brief intense showers could occur at a few places on July 12, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours, as well as the early morning period.

It warned that the prevailing weather conditions may trigger flash floods, landslides and mudslides in vulnerable areas of the Chenab Valley and the Pir Panjal range.

The MeT Centre has advised residents, tourists and travellers to remain vigilant and avoid venturing near nallas, streams and landslide-prone areas during periods of heavy rainfall.

Authorities have urged people to follow weather updates and advisories issued by the Meteorological Department and local administration, especially those living in or travelling through vulnerable regions.
