Day after Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation, Pralhad Joshi takes charge as Edu Minister

New Education Minister of India Pralhad Joshi

New Delhi: Senior BJP leader Pralhad Joshi on Sunday assumed charge of the Government of India’s Ministry of Education, a day after Dharmendra Pradhan resigned amid mounting pressure following nationwide protests over alleged examination paper leaks.

Joshi, who has been given additional charge of the Education Ministry while continuing to hold his existing portfolios, took charge at Shastri Bhawan in New Delhi. He said he was assuming the responsibility with a sense of duty and humility and pledged to work towards strengthening India’s education system.

Pradhan stepped down on Saturday after weeks of sustained protests by students and youth groups demanding accountability over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations. His resignation came after the GoI accepted his decision following growing public and political pressure.

The change in leadership comes at a crucial time for the Education Ministry, which is expected to oversee reforms aimed at restoring confidence in the examination system and implementing measures to prevent future paper leak incidents.
