Srinagar: The Srinagar-Jammu highway was blocked on Monday after a fresh landslide struck the Dewal area of Udhampur district, disrupting traffic and prompting authorities to launch restoration work.
Officials said debris clearance operations were underway to restore traffic movement. However, commuters have been advised to avoid travelling on the highway until the road is declared safe for traffic.
Authorities warned that the affected stretch remains vulnerable to further landslides and shooting stones due to the prevailing weather conditions, posing a risk to motorists.
The Traffic Police urged the public not to rely on rumours regarding the highway’s status and instead follow official updates issued through its social media platforms and Traffic Control Units in Srinagar, Ramban and Jammu.
Travellers have also been advised to check the latest road status before starting their journey. Authorities said further updates will be issued after restoration work is completed and the Srinagar-Jammu highway is reopened for traffic.
