The flood situation in Assam showed slight improvement on Monday, with no new deaths reported over the past 24 hours. However, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), nearly 4.45 lakh people remain affected across six districts—Sivasagar, Golaghat, Charaideo, Jorhat, Nagaon and Kamrup (Metropolitan).
The number of affected people has fallen from more than 5.24 lakh reported on Sunday. The overall death toll from this year’s floods remains at 68.
Charaideo continues to be the worst-affected district, with over 1.88 lakh people impacted, followed by Sivasagar and Jorhat. Relief efforts are ongoing, with 90 camps providing shelter to nearly 28,700 displaced residents and 94 distribution centres supplying essential aid.
The Dhansiri (South) river is still flowing above the danger mark at Numaligarh in Golaghat district. Rescue and relief operations are being carried out by the NDRF, SDRF and civil defence teams, with 67 boats deployed.
More than 37,000 hectares of farmland remain submerged, while over 26,600 animals have been lost. Floodwaters have also damaged homes, roads and other infrastructure in several affected areas.
