Iraqi Kurdish authorities say drones hit prime minister’s office
Iraqi Kurdish authorities said two explosive-laden drones targeted the private office of Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani. And the residence of the head of the region’s Security and Intelligence Agency early Monday.
The attacks took place in the Pirmam district of Erbil province. No injuries or deaths were reported.
The Kurdistan Region’s Counter-Terrorism Service said the drones were Iranian-made Hadid-110 aircraft launched from Iranian territory. The authorities did not immediately provide details about the extent of the damage or identify those responsible.
Barzani said an investigation by the Kurdistan Counter-Terrorism Unit confirmed that his private office. And the home of the intelligence chief had been targeted in what he described as Iranian drone attacks.
He called the incident a “dangerous escalation” and a direct threat to the security and stability of Iraq’s autonomous Kurdistan Region.
The attack comes amid heightened tensions across the region and follows a series of drone and missile strikes targeting areas of Iraqi Kurdistan in recent months. Kurdish authorities have repeatedly accused Iran and Iran-aligned groups of carrying out such attacks. While Tehran has previously said its strikes in the region were aimed at groups it considers hostile.
The latest incident remains under investigation.
