Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir is likely to experience fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rain and thunderstorms over the coming days, with the Meteorological Centre Srinagar forecasting continued wet conditions across both Kashmir and Jammu divisions.
According to the weather bulletin issued on Tuesday, fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are expected across J&K during the next 24 hours, with similar conditions likely to persist for the following two days.
In Kashmir, fairly widespread rainfall has been forecast from August 18 to 21, followed by widespread rainfall on August 22 and 23. Rainfall activity is expected to become isolated on August 24. Jammu division is likely to witness widespread rainfall from August 18 to 23, with isolated showers forecast on August 24.
The weather office has predicted isolated thunder and lightning, along with gusty winds of 30-40 kmph, in Kashmir over the coming days. Isolated heavy rain is also likely on August 22 and 23.
Jammu division could see more significant weather activity, including isolated heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph. The department has warned of possible landslides, mudslides, shooting stones and flash floods in vulnerable areas.
Meanwhile, several parts of J&K recorded above-normal temperatures during the past 24 hours. Srinagar recorded a maximum of 33°C, while Kathua in Jammu division recorded 35°C. Minimum temperatures in Kashmir were also 1-2°C above normal at many places, while several areas of Jammu division recorded near-normal night temperatures.
Gulmarg recorded Kashmir division’s lowest minimum temperature at 12.7°C, while Bhaderwah recorded the lowest in Jammu division at 17.8°C.
The weather bulletin also reported light to moderate rain and thunderstorms in parts of the region, with Mirpur receiving the highest rainfall of 81.6 mm during the period under review.
For Wednesday, August 19, Srinagar is expected to remain generally cloudy with light rain or thunderstorms, with temperatures likely to range around 22°C to 30°C. Jammu is forecast to have a generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rain or thunderstorms, with temperatures expected to remain around 25°C to 32°C.
The Meteorological Centre has advised people to remain cautious, particularly in areas vulnerable to landslides, mudslides, shooting stones and flash floods during periods of heavy rainfall.
The seven-day forecast covers the period from 8:30 am on August 18 to 8:30 am on August 25.
