Russian strike on Kryvyi Rih shopping centre kills 16, injures 130
The Russian drone attack on the shopping centre in the Ukrainian city of Kryvyi Rih has claimed 16 lives and left 130 others wounded, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy posted on his official Telegram, as rescue workers searched among the wreckage for survivors.
He said emergency crews had been removing debris from the site and they had also extinguished a blaze which engulfed around 9,000 square metres.
“Rescue teams are still working at the site of yesterday’s Russian strike on a shopping centre in Kryvyi Rih,” he said in a Telegram post.
“We are working on this,” he told AFP news agency at the site of the rescue operation, where rescuers from seven regions, plus canine search teams, were taking part.
Ukrainian officials said nine people, including two children, were still missing.
Officials have called the assault a “double-tap” strike, alleging that a second drone struck the shopping centre after emergency workers had begun dealing with the first impact.
Zelenskyy has condemned the strike as “deliberate acts of barbarism” and vowed that Ukraine will respond.
