Bihar police resorted to water cannons to disperse the mob and detain protesters demanding reforms be implemented in the Bihar state recruitment exams (BPSC) as protesters breached police barricades in Patna, Hindustan Times reports.
A group of BPSC aspirants started marching towards the Chief Minister’s residence from Gandhi Maidan and reached the Dak bungalow crossing where police installed barricades. They tried to stop students from entering the prohibited zone, but the protesters forcefully crossed over the barricades, with police personnel warning students.
Soon after, the police used water cannons to disperse them, and some protesters were seen enjoying it, doing a ‘rain dance’ at the protest site as a spray of water was showered upon them. The police forces tried to curb protesters, detaining a few of them. Further reinforcement of CRPF and RAF force at crucial city crossing were installed.
The protestors have been protesting for the past couple of weeks against BPSC recruitment exams and claimed they have indulged in several scams.
They demanded a two-tier, one-test BPSC TRE-4, one examination system with a transparent recruitment policy and an opportunity for Hindi medium candidates in exams. The candidates have also pressed for the cancellation of the 70th BPSC exams after alleging fraud. Police and government officials tried to maintain that students should take up their problems through dialogue.
