The second pilot, who was critically injured in the crash of a training aircraft in Kanpur, died in the hospital, taking the number of casualties to two, the Hindustan Times reported.
The victims were identified as instructor pilot Sachin Bhatia from Gujarat and trainee pilot Abhishek Pujari from Karnataka, Kanpur Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal said. Bhatia had about 3,000 hours of flying experience.
The twin-engine plane, used by Garg Aviation, had taken off at around 11.30 a.m. from the training centre and crashed nearly 20 minutes later near Nathupurwa village in the Katri area near Ganga Barrage, officials said.
The reason for the crash is not yet known.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation said that its experts would go to the crash site to monitor the accident according to civil aviation safety standards and facilitate information sharing. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau has been informed and will probe the causes and circumstances of the air accident in detail.
