A fire broke out at the Slavneft-YANOS oil refinery in the Russian city of Yaroslavl following an overnight Ukrainian drone strike, one of a series targeting Russian energy infrastructure, an independent Russian media outlet, Astra reported.
The Slavneft-YANOS plant is one of Russia’s largest oil refineries located over 700 kilometres away from Ukraine.
Yaroslavl regional Gov. Mikhail Yevrayev said that the strike was “one of the largest drone attacks” on the region since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Emergency response teams later extinguished the fire. Ukraine’s General Staff on Friday announced that its forces had struck the refinery, resulting in a fire.
Officials have blamed each other for attacks on critical facilities across Ukraine.
