Srinagar: MK Sinha and Sujit Kumar assumed charge as the new heads of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Kashmir Police Zone respectively on Friday, with both officers underlining their focus on strengthening security and intelligence operations in Jammu and Kashmir.
Sinha, a 1996-batch IPS officer, took over as Additional Director General (ADG) CID J&K from Nitish Kumar, who has been transferred as ADG Armed Police J&K. Sinha was earlier functioning as ADG (HQR) PHQ J&K.
After assuming charge, Sinha held a meeting with senior CID officers and reviewed the overall functioning of the intelligence wing. Senior officers welcomed him and assured full cooperation and commitment in discharging their duties.
Meanwhile, 1999-batch IPS officer Sujit Kumar took charge as Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone on Thursday evening.
He visited Hazratbal on Friday as part of his maiden ground visit after assuming office and reviewed security arrangements and coordination among police and other security agencies amid large congregations on the occasion of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW).
Speaking to reporters, Kumar assured the people that the Kashmir Zonal Police was “always there” for their safety and security and sought public cooperation in maintaining peace and law and order.
He said anti-terror operations would remain the force’s top priority, adding that the police was also focused on ensuring smooth and peaceful congregational prayers during large gatherings.
Kumar acknowledged that security arrangements could sometimes cause inconvenience to commuters and appealed to the public to cooperate with the police during such deployments.
Both officers have assumed their new responsibilities at a time when security and counter-terror operations remain a key focus for the J&K Police, alongside maintaining peace and public order across the region.
