Ten drones were shot down over Erbil early Wednesday, with no casualties reported, according to Kurdish authorities in Iraq. Tensions in the region are rising amid renewed fighting between the U.S. and Iran.
The location from which the drone entered or its potential targets could not be immediately confirmed.
This incident happened at a time when Iran and the US are launching counterattacks against each other, in which Iran’s Revolutionary Guards announced the launch of a coordinated missile and drone attack on US bases in Erbil, where they claim that two drones hit a maintenance centre, two warehouses and a US guidance system of an American spy aerostat.
However, it came in a separate message when a security source told Shafaq News about a warplane intercepting two drones over Erbil airspace around 2:30 on Wednesday morning.
There have been recent drone incidents over the past few days in the Kurdish region, where Kurdish authorities have claimed to have intercepted Iranian drones targeting Government and security establishments in Erbil without loss of life.
