Robert Lewandowski gave the hosts an early lead in front of a record crowd at Soldier Field but Inter Miami rallied to draw 1-1 with Chicago Fire on Wednesday.
Lewandowski scored in the ninth minute to give Chicago an early lead in the Major League Soccer match.
Inter Miami responded after the break as Brazil midfielder Casemiro headed in the leveller in the 48th minute. The goal came shortly after Chicago custodian Chris Brady had saved a shot from Lionel Messi.
The game drew 63,094 fans, which was an attendance record for Chicago Fire. The crowd also helped make it one of the most-attended MLS matches of the 2026 season.
The result took Inter Miami to 44 points in the Eastern Conference while Chicago Fire had 39 points.
The game featured two of football’s biggest names, Messi and Lewandowski, who went head-to-head after making high-profile moves to MLS.
Lewandowski, who joined Chicago Fire this season, scored his sixth goal of the season but Messi failed to find the net despite creating chances.
As the regular season rolls on, Inter Miami will next be in action against Nashville SC while Chicago will be looking to build off the result.
