Yemen’s Houthi rebels on Friday accused Saudi Arabia of launching 26 air strikes on areas under their control in the past twenty-four hours, as fighting intensified between the Iran-aligned group and Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces, AFP reported.
The Houthis said the latest strikes brought to around 300 the number of Saudi attacks on their positions in the past week across areas of Houthi-held Yemen. Claims couldn’t be verified independently.
The renewed fighting comes as part of a broader escalation of Yemen’s civil war, with the Houthis and Saudi-backed forces exchanging attacks across several fronts.
Yemen’s government said Friday that its forces had killed thirty Houthi fighters and wounded more than sixty others during clashes in the al-Wazi’iyah district of Taiz province, AFP reported.
The Houthis have also attacked Saudi Arabia in recent days. A Houthi drone was intercepted over the Taif governorate, killing one person, Riyadh said, while Houthi-linked media reported casualties from Saudi strikes in Taiz and Abs.
The fighting has also raised concerns over shipping through the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, a key Red Sea trade route.
