Iran has hanged a man convicted of giving information on missile sites in the central province of Isfahan to Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency, the judiciary said on Saturday.
The judiciary named the man as Hossein Pedaran, convicted of espionage and intelligence cooperation with Israel. According to the judiciary-run Mizan news agency, his death sentence was upheld by Iran’s Supreme Court before he was hanged.
“The death penalty was carried out against Hossein Pedaran, who had provided the Mossad with information on missile sites in Isfahan province,” judicial authorities said, according to AFP.
Pedaran transmitted sensitive information about military sites and personnel and was paid for his activities, Iranian authorities said. Investigators also said they recovered encrypted devices and missile-related material at his home.
The alleged spying occurred during a conflict between Iran and Israel that lasted about 12 days, the judiciary said. Iranian authorities said some sites that Pedaran provided information on were subsequently targeted, Reuters reported.
