Fighting between the Iran-aligned group and Saudi-backed forces intensified in Yemen as the Houthi-run Health Ministry said Saudi airstrikes killed or wounded 24 civilians in the past 24 hours, on Wednesday.
The ministry’s figures could not be independently confirmed. Saudi authorities did not immediately comment on the reported civilian deaths.
In the past few days, media outlets linked to the Houthis have reported a string of Saudi strikes in areas under the control of the group. On Tuesday, the Houthis said Saudi strikes in Al-Jawf province killed a mother and child and wounded three members of their family, according to AFP.
The latest escalation follows renewed fighting across western Yemen, including the Red Sea coast. The Houthis said Saudi Arabia has carried out dozens of air strikes in recent weeks, and Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces said they had made gains against Houthi positions.
The conflict has also raised concerns over shipping through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a key route linking the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden.
