Srinagar: Fresh snowfall was reported from the upper reaches of Chattapani, the Pir Panjal range and along the Mughal Road on Thursday, while lower areas of Jammu and Kashmir received rainfall, resulting in a drop in temperatures.
Officials said light snow accumulated in the higher reaches. Authorities have advised commuters travelling on the Mughal Road to exercise caution and check the latest road conditions before embarking on their journey.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has forecast generally dry weather across Jammu and Kashmir over the next two days, followed by a brief spell of wet weather in parts of the Union Territory.
A MeT official said September 25 and 26 are expected to remain generally dry, while September 27 and 28 are likely to be generally cloudy, with brief spells of light rain, light snowfall over higher reaches, thunder and gusty winds at a few places.
Brief spells of rain are expected at a few places on September 29 and 30, while October 1 and 2 are likely to remain generally dry.
The department has further forecast generally cloudy weather from October 3 to 5, with light rain, light snowfall over higher reaches, thunder and gusty winds at a few places.
The MeT department said the prevailing and expected dry weather conditions are favourable for apple and paddy harvesting as well as other agricultural activities.
Farmers have been advised to plan harvesting and spraying operations accordingly and remain cautious during periods of gusty winds and thunder activity.
