Yemen’s Saudi-led coalition said Saturday it intercepted two ballistic missiles and two drones launched by Iran-backed Houthi forces toward Saudi Arabia, as attacks on the kingdom continue to escalate.
The coalition said in posts on X the missiles were targeting Khamis Mushait and the drones Riyadh. It said it was monitoring missile and drone threats but did not provide further details, Reuters reported.
Saudi civil defence authorities issued alerts overnight for Khamis Mushait and Abha, but no alert was reported for Riyadh.
The Houthis, who control much of northern Yemen, have launched attacks against Saudi Arabia since announcing a naval blockade of the kingdom in July, Reuters reported. The attacks have targeted Saudi cities, energy installations and shipping.
The recent incidents come as Saudi Arabia faces increased regional security concerns. Earlier, Saudi, Pakistani and Turkish military chiefs met in Riyadh to discuss threats to the kingdom.
Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman said he reaffirmed with Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir continued joint efforts to counter attacks against Saudi Arabia under a recently signed defence pact.
