According to a senior Israeli official, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited Abu Dhabi on Sunday and had a private meeting with United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Reuters reported.
Netanyahu’s office and the UAE Foreign Ministry had no immediate comment on the reported meeting.
The one-day visit was also covered by Israeli media including Channel 12, KAN, Haaretz and The Jerusalem Post. Netanyahu flew to Abu Dhabi on a private plane and spent the day before returning to Israel, Channel 12 said.
The visit coincides with renewed interest in reports that Sheikh Mohammed warned Netanyahu in 2023 that Hamas was preparing a major operation before the Oct. 7 assault. The warning was not passed on to the Israeli intelligence agencies or the military, Haaretz said.
Netanyahu has denied the report and threatened to sue the newspaper.
Israel and the UAE established diplomatic relations in 2020 under the US-brokered Abraham Accords. The reported meeting comes amid high regional tensions, but the two countries maintain diplomatic relations.
