Taylor Swift added another milestone to her already record-breaking VMA career at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards.
The pop star received the inaugural Artist Director Honours on Sunday (Monday morning in India), making her the most-awarded artist in VMA history.
Swift had previously been tied with Beyoncé, with both artists holding 30 VMAs each. The newly introduced award recognises artists whose work behind the camera has helped broaden the creative scope of music videos and pushed forward visual storytelling.
In her acceptance speech, Swift recalled beginning her involvement in music videos around two decades ago. She said she has since worked on approximately 60 music videos, including 18 that she wrote and directed herself.
Addressing her fans, she said they were the reason the experience remained enjoyable.
Swift also won the night’s top honour, Video of the Year, for “The Fate of Ophelia,” from her album “The Life of a Showgirl.”
She dedicated the award to the late Dolly Parton, whom she described as the “ultimate showgirl.”
Swift said audiences were fortunate to have shared the world with Parton during her lifetime.
Taylor Swift debuts ‘Patient Zero’ music video
Swift also premiered the music video for her new track “Patient Zero” during the ceremony. The video was directed by Swift and features actors Colin Farrell and Dakota Johnson. Swift and Johnson appear as mirror images of one another in the visual.
“Patient Zero” marks Swift’s first single since her July marriage to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden.
The two-hour ceremony was broadcast live on CBS from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
