One Assam Rifles soldier was killed and four others injured after a patrol team came under suspected militant fire in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district Tuesday morning, officials said.
The assault occurred around 6:30 a.m. Officials quoted as saying to PTI, near Nampong Nallah on the India-Myanmar border, where 21 Assam Rifles personnel were patrolling an area where border fencing work is underway.
Local reports identified the slain soldier as Havildar Jankhokai Kuki, 42. The injured personnel were being evacuated for medical treatment and details of their condition were not immediately available.
After the attack, security forces began searching the area.
Although authorities had not officially confirmed the identity of the attackers, preliminary reports suggested the involvement of militants from the NSCN (K-YA) faction. Police got information regarding the incident and was collecting details, Changlang Superintendent of Police Kirli Padu said.
