Mumbai Police has issued a notice instructing actor Imran Khan to leave India by October 28 after he protested against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, media reports say.

Khan joined the rally organised by the satirical political movement Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on October 10 at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan; CJP protesters had called for Kumar’s resignation.

Khan was charged under the applicable section of the immigration and foreigner’s act 2025 as he was not an Indian citizen and still joined the protest, police said, according to a report by NDTV on Thursday.

He is an Indian citizen (American citizen) and an overseas citizen of India (OCI) cardholder, but Indian citizenship isn’t awarded.

Khan’s wife, actress Lekha Washington, and relative Zayne Marie Khan also came to the protest and were held by police.

The notice comes after a complaint by BJP leader Kirit Somaiya, who had also urged action against the actor for violating OCI provisions and visa conditions.

Earlier, Khan had questioned the curbs on freedom of movement and the silencing of the voice of the people after he was taken into custody, said The Print.
