The incident took place on Monday after a verbal altercation reportedly broke out between local residents and BSF personnel deployed at Ashabari Border Outpost (BOP) under the force’s 49th Battalion.
According to reports, the confrontation occurred near the Boxanagar-Rahimpur road after BSF personnel detained a man identified as Hefzur Rahman on suspicion of smuggling during vegetation clearance work in Ashabari.
Following the detention, a group of locals allegedly blocked the road and attacked a BSF vehicle using sticks and bamboo. Company Commander Rohit and three other BSF personnel were reportedly injured in the assault.
A video circulating on social media purportedly shows a group of people charging towards the BSF personnel and attacking them with sticks and bamboo.
The injured personnel were subsequently taken to Boxanagar Primary Health Centre (PHC) for medical treatment. Security arrangements in the area have since been strengthened.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha strongly condemned the attack, describing violence against BSF personnel as unacceptable and a matter of serious concern.
In a post on X, Saha denounced what he termed a brutal assault on BSF personnel at Ashabari by a group of miscreants. He said attacks on security forces could not be tolerated and called for those responsible to face strict action under the law.
The Chief Minister also directed the concerned authorities to act swiftly and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice, adding that security personnel deserve respect and protection.
