Al-Houthi stated, “We will not stand idly by if the Americans escalate further and commit foolishness by targeting or waging war against us due to our support for the Hamas movement.”
He went on to caution that in the event the United States initiated hostilities against the Houthi group, their response would involve targeting US battleships and interests in the region utilising a combination of missiles, drones, and military operations.
This threat from the Houthi leader followed the US announcement earlier in the week of a 10-nation coalition formed to counter Houthi missile and drone attacks on ships navigating the Red Sea.
Notably, this coalition includes the participation of the United States, Britain, France, Italy, and other nations.
The Houthi rebels have recently heightened and pledged to sustain their attacks on commercial ships with ties to Israel, traversing the Red Sea and Arab Sea. Their demands include an immediate cessation of Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip and the facilitation of the delivery of essential food and medicine supplies to the enclave.
The Houthi militia maintains control over substantial areas in northern Yemen, encompassing the capital city of Sanaa and the strategically important port city of Hodeidah, situated on the coast of the Red Sea.
This port city is crucial, as it serves as a transit point for approximately 12 percent of global trade. The geopolitical situation remains tense as regional actors navigate complex dynamics and potential consequences in response to these developments.
