Kathua: Four army personnel were killed and six injured on Monday when militants ambushed their vehicle in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district, officials said.

The attack occurred around 3:30 pm near Badnota village in Lohai Malhar, when militants threw a grenade and opened fire on Army vehicles patrolling the Machedi-Kindli-Malhar road.

Armed forces retaliated, but the militants fled into a nearby forest. An intermittent exchange of fire continued as reinforcements were sent to kill the militants, believed to have recently infiltrated from across the border.

An official stated that a total of 10 troopers were injured, with four succumbing to their injuries.

This is the second major incident in Kathua in four weeks. On June 12 and 13, two militants and a CRPF jawan were killed in a gunfight during a search operation.

Additionally, on June 26, three foreign militants were killed in a gunfight in the Gandoh area of Doda district.

On June 9, militants attacked a bus carrying pilgrims from the Shiv Khori temple, killing nine and injuring 41.
