Srinagar: For the second consecutive year, Jammu and Kashmir will observe its Foundation Day on October 31, with events planned across the region. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha reviewed preparations for the day at Raj Bhawan, Srinagar, officials said.

However, National Conference (NC) and Congress leaders announced they will not participate, calling the change to UT status unconstitutional.

NC spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq stated the party’s commitment to restoring statehood and the “Darbar Move” legacy, saying, “We want statehood restored, and no party leader will attend the Foundation Day.”

Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Tariq Hameed Karra echoed this stance, adding, “We cannot celebrate something imposed on us unjustly.” The former state was restructured into two Union Territories, J&K and Ladakh, following the revocation of Articles 370 and 35A on August 5, 2019.
