The United States has voiced concern over Canada’s recent allegations involving Indian Home Minister of India Amit Shah, affirming its intent to continue discussions with Ottawa.

US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller commented on Wednesday, saying, “The allegations raised by Canada are concerning, and we will keep consulting with the Canadian government regarding these issues.”

This follows leaked reports from The Washington Post, which cited Canada’s National Security and Intelligence Adviser Nathalie Drouin and Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister David Morrison.

According to the report, Morrison confirmed that Shah’s name was mentioned in connection with alleged actions against Khalistani leader in Canada.

The situation comes amid Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s claims last year of credible evidence suggesting Indian agents’ involvement in the June 2023 killing of Canadian Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia. Canada states that it shared evidence with Indian authorities, though Indian officials have denied receiving any credible evidence and labelled the claims as “absurd.”

Notably, Canada is not alone in raising such concerns. In mid-October, the US Justice Department filed charges against an Indian government employee tied to an alleged plot to assassinate a Sikh separatist leader in New York.
